Spirit of God
by Arthur Lin
Along with our new sermon series on the Holy Spirit, we sang a new song Sunday entitled, “Spirit of God.” One of the things I love about this song is the beautiful teaching of the mysterious third person of the holy trinity. The Holy Spirit is a “gift of grace and love.” He brings power. He is the promised gift from Jesus. He’s dwells in us to embolden us for mission, sharing the good news of the gospel with others as we go. He makes all things new. He revives and gives life. (Job 33:4, Hag. 2:5, John 6:63, Acts 1:8, Acts 2:38, Rom. 15:13, 2 Cor. 3:18)
If you’re like me, there wasn’t much said about the Holy Spirit. The Father is our Lord, and our Sovereign Creator. Jesus is our Savior and Redeemer. Yet, I heard very little of who the Holy Spirit is and what He does. As we heard yesterday, He is equal with the Father and the Son. He’s not just to make you get goosebumps or something you tack on at the end of communion or a prayer. He guides in truth. He convicts of sin. He performs miracles and intercedes on our behalf!
I’m so excited about this series and would love for you to join us in learning more about the Holy Spirit with us on Sundays. And as we sing, we are learning and embedding the truths of the Holy Spirit into our hearts. So join us in learning this song as well! See you Sunday!!
Spirit of God
Verse 1
The blessing of the Father, gift of grace and love
The promise of the Savior for power from above
Oh, wondrous gift that’s given for confidence and mission
Holy Spirit, You make all things new
Chorus
Spirit of God, breathe on me now
Source of life, come, revive my weary heart
Spirit of God, shine on me now
Light of life, come, ignite my longing heart
Verse 2
Come and lift the dark clouds of doubt and unbelief
Shine upon my soul now, for by Your rays I see
Clearer, closer, deeper the love of my Redeemer
Holy Spirit, You make all things new
Bridge
Where You breathe hope thrives, the dead return to life
And the dark must flee the breaking day
By Your light I see the glory of my King
Beholding Him I will be changed
