Gospel Fluency

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:2

Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.
Ephesians 4:15

Practicing Gospel Fluency involves understanding, speaking, and living out the truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in daily life. To become “fluent” in the Gospel, we must immerse ourselves in it by participating in a deep, ongoing engagement with Scripture alongside the Holy Spirit, bringing us to a transformative familiarity with the Gospel’s message of salvation through Jesus. We transform our minds by thinking about our lives with a Gospel-centered perspective, integrating these truths into our identity and worldview, and being able to respond to situations in ways that reflect Jesus’s love, grace, and truth. When we are fluent in the Gospel, we are able to remind others of God’s promises and compassion. Gospel Fluency is not about being robotic with intellectual knowledge about God but is rooted in a personal relationship with God that involves heart-level change.

Practical Suggestions

  1. Partner with a friend, your Missional Community, or DNA group to practice sharing the gospel using frameworks like "Creation-Fall-Redemption-Restoration" or "Three Circles".

  2. Write out your personal testimony in light of the gospel and share it with someone.

  3. Start each day reflecting on the truths of the gospel (e.g., listen to songs like “In Christ Alone” or use a gospel devotional). Use tools like "Fruit to Root" to help you grow in your awareness of what’s in your heart and then to turn and find truth in the Gospel.

  4. Lead or participate in a Missional Community Discovery Bible Study/Sermon Discussion where you can hear and/or share how the gospel applies to daily life.
