Sorrow and Sighing Will Flee Away

Say to those who have an anxious heart,
“Be strong: fear not!
Behold, your God will come with a vengeance,
with the recompense of God.
He will come and save you.
Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,
and the ears of the deaf unstopped;
then shall the lame man leap like a deer,
and the tongue of the mute sing of joy.
For waters break forth in the wilderness,
and streams in the desert;
And the ransomed of the Lord shall return
and come to Zion with singing;
everlasting joy shall be upon their heads;
they shall obtain gladness and joy,
and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
— Isaiah 35:4-6,10

Many of us a looking for hope. Hope that we can cling to. Hope that we can count on.
And when we try to put our hope in the things of this world, they will most assuredly fail.
I think most of us can say we’ve had enough discouragement to last a lifetime right?
“2020, get out of here…….oh, and you can take the first part of 2021 with you!”

Well here’s the good news: Christ came to save and redeem the lost and He is coming again to fix and restore all things!!
One day there will be no more strife.
No more bickering.
No more sadness.
No more sickness.
No more pain.
No more sorrow.
No more politics.
No more racism.
No more separation.
No more death or dismay.

Just like Christ makes anew our hearts when we put our faith in Him, He will one day come back and transform everything around us, even us!
The bad news is sorrow and pain are real today, tomorrow, the next day, and even the day after that.
But, the good news is Christ has come and He is coming back!!

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.
—  Revelation 21:3-4

As a response to this beautiful truth, we will be learning a new song at New City by my buddy Elliot Lee and his team over at Sojourn J-Town in Louisville. Would you take a listen and learn it with us? It’s a wonderful celebration and declaration of hope in Christ’s returning.

On the Day He Returns

Verse 1
The promised seed of God, Jesus died for you
And taking the blame, He buried our shame
Though sown in weakness, raised in power He grew
on up from the grave, His people to save

Pre-Chorus
Every sigh traded for songs to celebrate death overturned
Though we’ve cried, tears won’t remain
We will all be changed on the day He returns

Chorus
There is coming a day when in the blink of an eye
in a moment we’re changed
And there’ll be no more sorrow or pain
Co-heirs with Christ, we will reign
And forever we’ll praise his name

Verse 2
From every seed of pain springs life up anew
No labor in vain, our King won’t delay
The heavens open wide,
His voice running through
like waters of life, “I am coming soon”

Pre-Chorus
Every sigh traded for songs to celebrate death overturned
Though we’ve cried, tears won’t remain
We will all be changed on the day He returns

Chorus
There is coming a day when in the blink of an eye
in a moment we’re changed
And there’ll be no more sorrow or pain
Co-heirs with Christ, we will reign
And forever we’ll praise his name
