Music huh?

I think one of the most intimidating things about visiting a church is whether the songs will be familiar or not.

“Is the band going to play a song I know?”

“Am I going to be the only one not singing?”

“Will others see that I don’t know this song?”

I know those thoughts and worries because I have been in those shoes! This past Sunday we saw so many visitors, each welcomed warmly. I can’t help but think that at least a few of those visitors may have had those aforementioned apprehensions.

In an attempt to help visitors feel welcome at New City Church, we’ve created Spotify playlists that help to alleviate this stress. There are two playlists in particular I want to point to:

New City Sunday Morning
This playlist is updated each week to reflect the songs we will sing that upcoming Sunday. Visitors can listen and be prepared when they visit on a Sunday morning. But this isn’t just for visitors! This playlist is also for New City Church, to help prepare us to sing the good news of the gospel together. We can prepare ourselves to sing and praise our Lord and Savior, and in turn encourage and be encouraged by those around us.

New City Sound
This playlist was created with learning and encouragement in mind. It contains the entirety of our song repertoire. Each and every song we sing are carefully discerned and prayed through before we sing them together on Sunday mornings. We want to sing theologically accurate songs because we’re also learning and remembering who God is and what He has done for us.

So as I conclude this delightfully quaint blog, if you are a New City partner (what we call member) and you haven’t listened to these playlists, take a listen and come prepared to sing next Sunday. If you’re planning to visit New City for the first time or maybe planning your 2nd or 3rd visit, take a listen to these playlists and join in singing through gospel this Sunday!
